MarcoPolo Monthly Feature: Just Chill
....."Predicting winter weather is a difficult task, even for the professionals. Experts say that this winter season, which begins on December 21 at 2:21 p.m., will bring weather similar to last year, including the possibility for another Nor'easter on the East Coast, and above-average temperatures in the southwest. Whether you live in a warm or cold climate, MarcoPolo has numerous lessons and resources to help you and your students explore the symmetry of snowflakes, imagine a trip to the North or South poles, or curl up with some hot cocoa and revive the lost art of letter-writing........"

Get Ready for the Blogs
Making good on the Internet’s promise of a global village
By Leif Utne, Utne magazine
Jan / Feb 2003 Issue
"Early evangelists of the Web hailed the new medium largely for one reason: Anyone, anywhere could now be their own publisher. With nothing more than a modem, an elementary knowledge of HTML, and some basic design skills, even the humblest worker, student, or artist could put together a Web site as eye-catching and influential as anything Madison Avenue could cook up. That democratic vision is finally being realized, at least in part, in the burgeoning form of Web logs."

Learning Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 If you are learning powerpoint, keep at it. It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it. Hyperstudio is another program out there for presentations, but since we live in a microsoft world, I would stick with Powerpoint.
6 Step by step lessons include ~
•Beginning the Presentation
•Refining and Printing the Presentation
•Working with Images and Backgrounds
•Creating Charts, Tables, Equations, and Special Characters
• Creating Live, Stand-alone, and Web-based Slide Shows
•Concluding Tips

The Science House - For Teachers is a learning outreach project of NC State University.
Texan teacher, Laura Goodwin, wrote in about today's site:
While searching for a recipe for silly putty to make with my sixth graders, I stumbled upon this site. In the countertop chemistry section, there are many cool experiments using ingredients that are readily available at the grocery or hardware store. The experiments are categorized according to what scientific principles they would enhance. Most even have extension questions over the lab.
